Don Pathan has over 25 years of experience covering international relations, transnational crime, drugs, and insurgencies in mainland Southeast Asia. He consults for private-sector and international organizations and writes regularly for various media outlets. Pathan co-authored Confronting Ghosts: Thailand’s Shapeless Southern Insurgency (Lowy Institute) and contributed a chapter to Trouble in the Triangle: Opium and Conflict in Burma (Transnational Institute), examining the nexus between the United Wa State Army, the Thai government, and Myanmar’s military regime. He also co-authored a chapter in Promoting Conflict or Peace through Identity (Ashgate Publishing). Don graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1993 with a B.A. in History and Middle Eastern Studies.
